It was a warmer day today so we decided to pack up the camper and head out to Deer Trail for a hike before we left.
Drew said that his foot was bothering him and he didn't want to walk. So, Daddy carried him for quite a while.
This is normally one of the places that we stop to take pictures. Daddy will set up the camera on this rock and take a family shot of the four of us. But, after Nathan's picture here and Daddy fidgeting with the camera a little bit, we heard this unfamiliar sound coming from the distance.
The sound was kind of like a high pitched grumbling. Daddy looked confused and both the kids had a puzzled look on their faces.
Daddy asked "What was that?"
Mommy said "I think it was a baby bear."
Daddy said "Are you sure?"
Mommy responded "I'm pretty sure."
It didn't take us long to pick up the camera and start hiking back out of the trail. We heard the sound again and we walked a little faster. Didn't want to be stuck between a mama bear and her cub. Funny...after hearing that noise, Drew's foot was all better and he was practically running out of the forest.
On our way out, we had to stop for a family picture on Deer Trail. We QUICKLY set up the camera and snapped this shot of our scared little faces.
When we got back to the camper, Daddy got out his phone while we ate lunch. What was he doing? He went to YouTube and found videos of baby bears. Sure enough one of the baby bears in the videos sounded exactly like what we heard on Deer Trail. That kind of freaked us out a little bit but knowing that we got out of there without seeing a bear made us feel a little bit better.
Once we got home, Nathan was in Disneyland mode. He is determined to get on Splash Mountain when we visit Anaheim. So, instead of eating his vegetables and downing the protein, he's cutting cardboard. No, he's not working on building his muscle strength. He's going to use the cardboard as a stacking material in his shoes. He figures that he only has a few centimeters to go before he hits the 40" mark. The cardboard will get him there and he'll be able to ride splash when we hit up the House of Mouse.
