The crazy weather guys around here were calling for quite a winter storm to go through the area. Some of us had our doubts because they've been wrong so many times all ready this season.
Well, Saturday night, the ice/rain and wind started. Mom and Dad put me down to bed and they eventually fell asleep too. Around 3:00 AM Mom and Dad heard lots of wind and branches hitting the house. Mom was so scared that she ran back to the bedroom to get me from my bed. At around 4:00, the electricity went out. We tried to get some more sleep out in the living room, but that was a little difficult with all the wind blowing outside. We had no power all day Sunday. Mom and Dad kept me busy the best that they could.
The tree outside along the lane was leaning quite a bit and we were trying to keep an eye on it.
Sunday night, the cold got to be too much and I was hard to control in a pitch black. I was getting too antsy and wanted to "Do something else." We left for Motel 6. The normal 10 minute drive took us 40 minutes. There was only one way off our mountain and it was the LOOOOONG way. Mom and Dad were very nervous to leave the house and worried that we wouldn't be able to get back because of all of the downed power lines and trees.
Me at the hotel...still bundled up!!!
Monday morning, we woke up and started the drive back home. It was still really dark outside but the drive back was much easier than getting there. When we got home and pulled in the drive way, Daddy said "Tree down!!! Stay in the car!!!" Mommy doesn't listen too well. She wanted to jump out and see what she could do too. Daddy assessed the situation and told Mommy that the coast was clear.
The hole in the side of the house...
We still didn't have any power. So, Mommy packed me some breakfast and lunch. We were off to drop me off at day care so Mommy and Daddy could clean up the mess at home and I could stay warm all day. Mommy and Daddy couldn't go to work because the power was out there too.
After school, Mommy loaded me in the car and we headed to Hanover. Granny wasn't there when we got there because she had gone out and picked up a generator for Daddy. Grandpa Bob was at our house helping Daddy clean up the tree since Mommy is pretty useless at this point.
So, since then, the goal has been to get power back and clean up the yard. The electricity finally came back on Tuesday around 4 PM. The tree clean up is going to take a little bit longer.
