Good thing we left early. The lines at the airport were atrocious. Mom, Dad and Granno had never seen anything like it. Once we checked our luggage and got through security, we got to watch some planes take off from the waiting area. Then, the fun began.....
Our 9:35AM flight, which would be taking out off out of Baltimore arrived but they sent a plane that was too small to fit all of the people that were scheduled to fly straight through to LAX. So, anyone with a boarding pass of C13 or higher would not be getting on this plane. Well, that happened to be us. We were told to wait patiently and that we would be rerouted to our final destinations. When they finally called our names, Daddy was there to try and figure out what we were going to do with our party of 5. It turned out that Granno had to take one plane and the 4 of us would be on another plane. Thank goodness we didn't have to split up further.
After getting some lunch in the airport, it was time to go our separate ways. Our flight took off first. Granno had another hour or so to wait for her plane. Either way, we both got in the air and had a smooth flight to our next destination.
Our first layover was in Raleigh-Durham. We weren't really any closer to LAX yet and we had a 3 hour layover in what seemed to be the smallest airport EVER. There was a news stand, a restaurant and maybe one other shop. That was it. We ate a the restaurant because we thought that it would be a while until we were able to get something to eat. After that, we spent some time coloring and playing on our electronics to pass the time.
While we were in Raleigh, Granno was somewhere in the air headed for Albany, NY. She wasn't any closer to LAX either.
After a short wait, The Rupp's were in the skies again. This time, we were headed for....
Yup. We were in Chicago. A little bit closer but still not there. In Chicago, we weren't really supposed to have a layover but, we were there for nearly an hour waiting on our pilots. We were worried about Granno's plane that was flying to Chicago from Albany. You see, Granno was supposed to meet up with us in Chicago but there was a large line of storms and her plane either had to fly through them or go around them.
Either way, she got there on time and we got to board the plane to LAX. Shortly into the flight, Nathan decided that he had had enough. He was tired and he cuddled up with his pillow pet and passed out cold.
We were originally scheduled to get into LAX around 12:00PM Pacific Time. Well, those plans were "flown" out of the water and we ended up getting there at 11:00PM Pacific time. We spent about 20 hours in and around airports. We were all exhausted from the days events but that didn't stop Daddy from snapping a VERY quick picture of his first glimpse of the Disneyland entrance way. Way to go Dad!
